Return Policy
Returns by Mail
Include a copy of your confirmation email or order details with your securely packaged return. If you don't have this information, include a note with your name, email address, phone number, and order number. Your refund could be delayed if we can't identify the original purchase date.
Return shipping is at your expense. We're not liable for lost or damaged packages. Please use a traceable, insured method of shipping when returing your item(s).
Hold on to your tracking information and shipping receipt until you get your refund
Returns in Person
Items must be in salable condition, and returns must be accompanied by the original receipt. Clothing items must have the original tags still attached. If you return an item within 10 days, you will be refunded in full, using the method of payment shown on the original receipt. Returns made between 10 and 30 days can be exchanged for store credit only.
For all returns and exchanges, the customer is responsible for costs associated with returning the item(s) to the Brown Bookstore.
Apparel & Gifts
All returns must be done within 10 days of purchase. All merchandise must be in the original packaging, unworn, unwashed, and undamaged. The original receipt (or packing slip if purchased online) is required for all returns.
Returns will be credited to the original form of payment, if possible. If we are unable to credit the original form of payment, a Brown gift card will be issued to you.
Gift cards are non-refundable.
Online orders must be picked up within 10 business days. Orders not picked up will be cancelled and refunded. Receipts are required.
Textbooks & Course Materials
The return policy for textbooks and course materials is very detailed.
A full refund will be provided for course materials returned through the shopping period. Course materials purchased after shopping period must be returned within 2 business days of purchase for a full refund.
Summer and short-term courses must be returned by the second day of classes. Course materials must be in original purchase condition or they will be refunded as used books. Textbook packages must be returned with all components and unused.
Access codes and other online materials must be unopened/inactivated and returned by the end of the shopping period.
Purchases of eBooks are generally refundable within 14 days of the first day of access, or thirty (30) days after the purchase is made, whichever occurs first. However, no refund is possible if more than 10% of the product has been viewed and/or if any page(s) of the product has been printed.
Inactivated access code/courseware purchases are refundable within fourteen (14) days after the purchase is made and at the discretion of the digital provider.
Course materials purchased during the last week of classes of final exams are non-refundable.
Course packs and custom publishing are non-refundable.
Technology Items
Opened hardware (that is not custom or special order) may be returned with a receipt, however a 15% restocking fee may be applied if items are not in resalable condition (product must be in original packaging, with all original accessories, manuals, etc, and all pieces must be undamaged, clean, and in brand new condition).
All opened hardware must be verified as defective, either in store or with a valid AppleCare case number. All returned items must be in their original boxes or packaging. Defective computers or iPads may be returned or exchanged within 5 business days of purchase. After 5 days, the manufacturer may choose to have the item exchanged or repaired under warranty. All returns must include all original packaging and the original sales receipt.
Cartridge World ink cartridges that are defective must be dealt with the Cartridge World directly. Ink cartridges are non-returnable once opened.
Special orders are not returnable. All special order returns must be returned/coordinated with the manufacturer. Special order items that are not picked up within 14 business days of informing the customer of its arrival, and are DOA (Dead on Arrival) are non-returnable, and issues must be handled with the manufacturer.
NOTE: Headphones of all types are not eligible for return due to health concerns. Defective headphones may be returned to the manufacturer. Defective Apple or Beats headphones are only returnable with a valid AppleCare case ID, obtained through Apple directly.
